Well, the opening ceremony is over. I was very impressed right up until the end. I might even say it was the best opening ceremony I've seen yet. Right up until the end. There was much speculation here about who would light the cauldron at the end. At first it was thought it would be Yao Ming, but he carried the torch a couple days ago and you can't have a person carry it twice. Yao Ming being the biggest star they have here, everyone thought they would have to pull out somebody huge to top him. If not someone really famous then maybe someone with a touching or inspirational story. Instead the organizers went with a relative nobody. Some dude who won a gold medal for China decades ago in gymnastics. I thought maybe he was a local hero, but no one in the stadium seemed all that impressed with who he was either.
But like I said the begining was fantastic. Really amazing special effects and cool choreography.
